- Punctuation marks help the reader understand what the writer is trying to say
- A colon looks like this :
- Colons are used to introduce a list - He decided to visit three countries during his holiday to Europe: France, Spain and Portugal.
- And quotes - As Oscar Wilde said: ‘Be yourself; everyone else is taken.’
- Colons also separate two clauses where the second clause explains or clarifies the first - The children knew what they had to do: walk back home.
