Commas

  • Punctuation marks help the reader understand what the writer is trying to say
  • A comma looks like this  ,
  • Commas are used to separate items in simple lists - ‘We can play with balls, bats and hoops at playtime.’
  • Commas also indicate a pause in a sentence -  ‘Unsure of what to do, the children walked back home.’
  • The use of two commas can create a parenthesis within a sentence - 'The children, unsure of what to do, walked back home.'
