
Conjunctions
- Grammar is a set of rules that shows how words are used in a language
- Grammar defines the purpose of conjunctions and shows how they work in sentences
- Conjunctions connect words, phrases, or clauses together within a sentence
- ‘for’, ‘and’, ‘nor’, ‘but’, ‘or’, ‘yet’, ‘so’ (FANBOYS) are coordinating conjunctions which join two independent clauses together – ‘You like eating apples and you like eating bananas’
- ‘because’, ‘if’, ‘when’, ‘while’, ‘since’, ‘after’, ‘although’ are subordinating conjunctions which join an independent clause to a dependent clause – ‘You like eating apples because they are crunchy’.
