Rhetorical devices

  • Rhetorical devices such as oxymorons and hyperbole emphasize certain aspects of words

  • This creates language which is more engaging & memorable

  • Oxymorons emphasize the opposite meaning of words which are put together for dramatic effect – ‘organized chaos’

  • Hyperbole is where words or phrases are used to create extreme exaggeration – ‘This bag weighs a tonne!’
