
Fractions
- A fraction is a part of a whole number or whole shape
- Fractions have a numerator and a denominator
- The denominator (bottom number) shows how many equal parts the number or shape has been divided into - ¼ means 4 equal parts
- The numerator shows how many parts of the fraction are involved – ¼ means one of the 4 parts
- Fractions which are more than one whole are called improper fractions or mixed numbers
- Fractions can be added, subtracted, multiplied and divided and converted into decimals and percentages
