Modal verbs

  • Modal verbs help a partner verb express something
  • A modal verb can be used to show the ability to perform the action of a partner verb - I can eat my lunch in the dinner hall.
  • A modal verb can also be used to show how likely something is to happen - We will have lunch in the dinner hall.
  • A modal verb can additionally be used to ask or give permission for an activity or to suggest it - You could have lunch in the dinner hall.
