• Ratio compares one amount with another using whole numbers

• If there are two blue circles for every one red circle the ratio is 2 : 1

• Proportion compares one amount with another using fractions

• If there are two blue circles for every one red circle the proportion is 1 out of 3 or 1/3 red and 2 out of 3 or 2/3 blue
