• Children need to have developed fine motor skills before they can begin to write letters
• They will write big letters at  first which will get smaller as they progress
• Print writing is where the letters are not joined at all
• Cursive writing is where there are joining curves at the ends of letters which join to other letters
• Continuous cursive is where all letters have a joining curve at the start of the letter as well as the joining curve at the end
