Writing numbers as numerals & words

  • Children need to have developed the necessary eye-hand co-ordination and fine motor skills before they will be able to write numbers and words

  • It is easier to understand the value and meaning of numbers when they can be expressed in different ways

  • Being able to convert from words to numbers and numbers to words (such as one hundred and twenty-one & 121) supports understanding of place value

  • This in turn aids the maths skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication & division
