Mass (weight)

  • When we measure how heavy something is we are actually measuring its mass but often the word weight is used

  • Mass is the amount of matter ‘stuff’ in an object

  • This amount stays the same wherever you are - even on the moon

  • Weight is a force that measures how strongly gravity pulls on that mass

  • Because the moon has weaker gravity than Earth an object weighs less on the moon even though its mass is the same

  • MEASURE – mass (non-standard units)

Compare and measure mass (weight) using non-standard units
