• Consonants are all the letters of the alphabet that are not vowels: b, c, d, f, g, h, j, k, l, m, n, p, q, r, s, t, v, w, x, y, z

• The names of the consonants rather than the sound they make can be referred to when spelling non-phonetic words and where two or more letters make one sound
